Restoring The Function & Beauty of Your Smile

What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge in North Central San Antonio is a tooth-loss solution that fills gaps in your mouth caused by one or more consecutive missing teeth. It literally acts to bridge the gap between your natural teeth to restore your chewing and speaking abilities and prevent future oral health problems from developing. Traditionally bridges are comprised of two customized dental crowns on either side of the replacement tooth. These are attached to your natural teeth to hold your new tooth in place. We typically craft these from durable and realistic-looking materials such as ceramic.
Dental bridges can also be secured in your mouth using titanium implants, which are surgically placed into your jawbone. They naturally fuse with your body to create a strong and long-lasting foundation for your bridge to be placed on top of. Who Should Get a Dental Bridge?
Most patients who are missing between one and three teeth in a row can benefit from getting a dental bridge. The best way to learn whether you’re a good candidate is to schedule an appointment. During your visit, we’ll examine your oral health and make sure that any lingering problems, such as gum disease, are taken care of before the procedure begins.
In order to have a strong bridge that will last for years, patients need to have reasonably healthy and sturdy natural teeth that will support the crowns on either side of the bridge. For implant-retained bridges, it’s important to have a dense jawbone that can hold your titanium posts in place. Patients that don’t have strong enough jawbones can undergo preparatory procedures like bone grafting to solve this issue.

What is the Procedure Like?
During your first appointment, we’ll take digital impressions of your mouth to model the fit of your permanent dental bridge from. This will ensure that your customized restoration is made to fit precisely and comfortably in your mouth for a natural feel. We’ll then prepare your natural teeth that will receive the crowns and anchor your replacement tooth in place. Once we receive your dental bridge from our laboratory, we’ll call you in to permanently secure it.
