Dental Bonding

I have been a patient of Dr Eck since 1980. He has always been extremely pleasant, considerate, knowledgeable, kind, and friendly. He has taken excellent care of my entire family for many years. I’m not a big fan of having someone grind on my teeth, but I always look forward to visiting with Dr Eck and his staff. He cares about you. And that’s important.

If you want to learn more about dental bonding or any of the other cosmetic treatment options we provide, call the Legacy Dental SA team to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation in our North Central San Antonio dental office.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a bit of misnomer. Bonding is actually only part of this treatment process. Dental bonding is a cosmetic treatment that utilizes the tooth-colored composite resin materials used for fillings to correct and conceal smile irregularities. The bonding part of the process is the application of an acidic etchant that creates deeper pits and grooves in the surfaces of teeth, so the composite resin can mold naturally to the tooth enamel, leaving you with a perfected smile that makes use of your existing dental structures. We use the highest quality composite resin materials to perform both tooth-colored filling and dental bonding treatments, and once in place, these quality materials blend seamlessly into your smile and recreate the appearance of flawed tooth structures.

Who Should Consider Dental Bonding?

One of the many reasons dental bonding is so popular is that it’s very versatile. We can utilize dental bonding to improve the appearance of smiles with a number of flaws, including chips, cracks, stains, and gaps. Because we can complete the entire dental bonding process in just one appointment, it’s an ideal option for those who want to complete their treatments quickly. Unlike other cosmetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers, that offer similar results, dental bonding is very conservative. In many cases, we don’t need to remove any healthy tooth structure before beginning. Some patients are even able to reverse their treatments if they find they’re unhappy with the results, but this conservative solution typically leaves patients smiling.

What is the Dental Bonding Process?

Dental bonding is completed in just one appointment. When you arrive in our dental office, we’ll begin by numbing the area to be treated. Then, we apply the etchant bonding material that creates the deeper crevices to improve the connection between your teeth and the composite resin. When we place the precisely-shaded composite resin directly onto the teeth, it will seep into these crevices. Once the resin is molded into place, we’ll use a curing light to harden the resin in position on your teeth, concealing the cosmetic flaws and creating your picture perfect smile. Finally, we’ll smooth and polish your teeth, so you can leave our dental office with a gorgeous smile you can share in any situation with total confidence.
